He was later told by a surgeon that he would never run again or represent his country in sport. He proved him wrong by gaining a place in the British national basketball team. He then went on to try for a place on the Great Britain Rugby team, but did not manage.
This video should be an inspiration for all of us who compete at any level, or even against oneself. The message is keep going, keep training, keep on doing your best and you cannot fail.
